How Can I Change My Name?

In Fidelis, students (as well as coaches, instructors, and admins) can’t directly change their name from within their profile. This is intentional—it ensures that your name stays consistent with your university’s official records.

🧾 Why Can’t I Just Edit My Name Myself?

Your name is pulled from your school’s official system—usually something like SIS (Student Information System) or Cnex—when your account is created via Single Sign-On (SSO). After that, it’s locked to prevent accidental or unauthorized changes.

All updates to your name must first happen at the university level.

✅ What Should I Do If My Name Has Changed?

If you recently had a name change or spotted a mistake, here’s what to do:

  1. Submit a name change request to your university’s Registrar Office.

  2. Once they approve and update your record in the official system (like SIS/Cnex), your institution will update your name by manually uploading a special file.

🛑 Important: You cannot make this change directly inside Fidelis.

👨‍🏫 What If I'm a Admin?

If you’re an admin-level user, and a student’s name needs to be corrected after it’s been officially approved, there are two ways to do it:

  1. Via the Community Admin Tool:

    • Go to Community Admin Tool → Users

    • Find the student and click the Edit icon

    • Update the First Name and Last Name

  2. Using a CSV Upload (like SISCVue):

    • Submit a new file with the updated name fields

📌 Note: University does not include name fields in their update files.

🛠 What If I'm a Coach/Instructor?

Some coaches or instructors may be able to edit a student’s name via Sherpa after it’s been officially approved:

  • Go to Sherpa → Student Detail View → Info Tab

  • Click View All → Contact & ID section

  • Edit the First Name and Last Name

⚠️ If your university has disabled editing through Community Configuration, this option won’t be available.
